10 Things You NEED To Do Before 2016 Ends

I can’t believe there are only 10 days left until 2016 is over and 2017 comes rolling in, and believe me,it’s been one HELL of a year. Not just for me, personally, but also for the entire WORLD  americaisscrewedharambeisdeadstopflippingwaterbottleswydtrumpleaveusalonepls

This time of the year is probably the most bittersweet for me, not only because I subconsciously hate change and already know I’m going to suck at writing “2017” instead of “2016” as the date but also because I happen to love the idea of “new year, new (better) me” and finishing off the year in the best way I can before getting a somewhat new slate.

Here’s a mini-bucket list of the 10 things I (and you might!) want to accomplish before 2017:

1) Spend quality time with someone I usually don’t get to //

Whether it’s my mom, a friend or someone I want to get to know better, making time for others is something I want to do before 2017.

2) Eat/go out/explore somewhere I’ve never been before //

Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be some island in the middle of the Pacific. I’ve had my eye on a few museums, parks and cafes around my neighborhood and in Boston that I’ve been dying to go to, and as a creature of habit, it’s always nice for a change of scenery.

3) Organize all my spaces //

I’ll be the first to admit it – I seriously need to deep clean my room and office area. Despite cleaning my desk on a daily basis, everywhere else is pretty neglected at this point. Organizing things also gives me a feeling of peace and calm, so it would be nice to start off the new year with a completely clean space too.

4) Clean out camera roll/email inbox/phone //

Speaking of cleaning, I don’t think I’m doing my phone storage any favors with a camera roll full of pictures from 2013, awkward selfies or black screens. Although I do check and trash emails day to day, I always forget to empty out the spam and trash. I’m probably also not the only one who has at least 3 apps on her phone that she never uses but is too lazy to delete ahaha.

5) Go on a long run / walk / hike through nature // 

Running is the one thing that clears my head like nothing else even though the motivation it takes to get me from the couch to the door in my workout clothes is a little difficult at times. Despite the New England cold, with enough layers and a good trail, fresh air and pumping my arms & legs will definitely be good for me.

6) Bake something warm //

I absolutely love baking and doing things around the kitchen even though it’s something I barely have time for anymore because of school and my busy schedule. It would be nice to bake a batch of warm gingersnap cookies or make tasty treats just in time for the holidays. Plus, my house always smells amazing afterwards!

7) Sit down & work on my bullet journal/planner //

Last February, I started a bullet journal (more on it here:bulletjournal.com) but after 4-5 months I just couldn’t find the time to sit down and plan out everything. In June, I bought a cute planner that I had wanted to use for my school work but ended up, once again, forgetting to fill it in because of lack of time. Finally sitting down and planning out the next year would not only guarantee a fresh start to 2017 but also be a part of my New Year’s resolution.

8) Have a small photoshoot //

If you follow me on Instagram (which you totally should, by the way!) you know just how much I love a good photo op (there is no lack of sunset pictures anytime soon, believe me.) With the snow and holidays coming up, there’s no better time to gather a few friends for a day out in nature with the camera or arranging a small family picture session for the Christmas card 🙂

9) Compliment someone or strangers //

No better time to spread some holiday cheer than right before winter break and the new year! It always brings a smile to my face when I receive a compliment about something (shoes, hair, outfit, etc.) Compliments are a surefire way to not only add something to anyone’s step but also give you that nice, fuzzy feeling inside knowing that you made someone’s day that much better ♥

10) Remind myself of all of the amazing people and memories I made this year //

There really is no better way to end the year than by ending it on a positive note. Although the first half of the year was a bit rough for me, all the good things that happened to me and the even more amazing people I met along the way balance 2016 out. I’m truly thankful for everything that happened to me, good and bad. Personally, I believe that everything happens for a reason, even if it it’s a reason that you still have yet to discover. New Year’s Eve is a celebration of the fact that you made it through the year, and despite whatever setbacks you might’ve faced, you’re still here and every good thing that happened to you – small or big – really do make all the difference.

I hope you guys enjoyed my quick bucketlist and have had a good 2016. Remember that I love you all so much and no matter what happens next year,

you’re still amazing and can make it through whatever 2017 throws at you (yup, even Trump!)
