Top 9 Goals for 2019 – New Year, Better Mental Health

Hi guys!

Is it just me or did 2018 go by really fast? I mean, I was still writing 2017 on half of my papers through June of this year. Remember that whole “kids eating tide pods” fiasco? Yeah…that was in January. 

Yup. That’s just how fast this year has gone by. But before 2019 begins (only 2 more weeks!), I wanted to share my top 5 goals for the next year.

1. Improve My Productivity

I’ve written so much about productivity on this blog and yet I still seem to succumb to procrastination 9/10 times, whoops! 🤷🏻‍♀️ However, I’m adamant on making 2019 different. No more Youtube, Instagram,  Netflix, or Snapchatting during business and academic time…for real this time!

Me…studying for finals in June. Obviously, I’m super psyched to start stuDYING again in 2019! So fun!

2. Expand My Company

In August of 2018, I started my digital media and marketing agency, Elysia Media. I have a couple of clients right now but I’m hoping to double my current numbers and turn EM into a well-established agency so I can eventually rent office space and hire more employees!

3. Grow My Personal Brand

I started my Instagram with around two thousand or so followers. At the moment, I have 4.4k and I’m hoping to reach 5k before 2018 is over! I feel like I finally have a good grasp on what makes good content, what boosts engagement, and how to work with the Instagram algorithm. It might be too ambitious to want to have 10k in 2019…but we’ll see! You never know.

Additionally, I want to spend more time blogging so I can grow my personal brand into something more recognizable in the blogging community, which means more posts, more often.

4. Develop Healthier Coping Mechanisms

This year was sort of an emotional roller coaster for me. Typically, crying is the best way to soothe me and it’s a default go to for most people when it comes to dealing with difficult emotions. However, I’m also an emotional eater, so I eat a lot when I’m happy, sad, or even just bored. In 2019, I’m hoping to eradicate that habit and replace it with something healthier, like working out.

Sigh…if life was only as serene as Boston in the summer.

5. Prioritize Mental Health

2018 was honestly the year of mood swings. Not only did I constantly have awful mood swings as a result of my PMS, but the year, in general, was just a giant, dramatic mood swing: sometimes I was living my absolute best life and had never been happier in my life, and other times my heart was so heavy with pain that I sunk into a deep, dark pool of my own tears. Mental health, amirite? All self-deprecating humor aside, I really do want to learn to take care of myself better so that I can avoid burnout and be steadily happy. Your state of mind reflects the state of your life. 

6. Sleep More

Sounds simple enough, right? Yeah, well when you’re sleeping between 4-6 hours on average per night…it’s not a great situation. Ideally, I want to start getting at least 7-8 hours per night. Coffee can really only go so far to save me from fatigue and bad attitude.

7. Cut Off Toxic People From My Life

I recently went through a pretty end to a friendship. Despite all the tears and anguish, I’ve felt due to the loss of someone who used to be incredibly close and important to me, I’ve realized that sometimes, you’re just better off without toxic people in your lives. If they make you feel awful, drop them. It’s a simple concept but hard to implement, which is exactly why I’m making it a priority in 2019.

8. Learn Time Management

This goes hand-in-hand with improving my productivity, but I struggled so much with time management this year that I was physically and mentally spread so thin that I need to actually schedule out my tasks minute by minute. 2019 is the year I want to allow time for the truly important things in my life and learn to accomplish more in less time.
